A DeSoto woman shot a suspected armed intruder Friday after he tried to follow her into her home, police said in a written statement.
At approximately 7:54 p.m., DeSoto police officers responded to a home in the 400 block of Raintree Circle after a woman called 911. The woman told dispatch that a man she did not know was in her backyard, armed with a gun and trying to break in. , the release said.
The 911 operator could hear yelling and screaming during the call as the man, later identified as Octavio Flores Mondragon, attempted to force his way through the garage, and several neighbors simultaneously called 911 about reported gunshots, the release said.
When police arrived at 7:57 p.m., the woman, who was not identified, met them at their doorstep. She told police she saw a dark truck follow her around her neighborhood and pull into the driveway behind her. According to the release, she said she then ran into the house, called 911 and armed herself with her gun. When Flores tried to penetrate Mondragon, she fired multiple gunshots that stopped him.
When police searched the home, they encountered 35-year-old Flores Mondragon lying in the garage with a gun next to him, the release said. Flores Mondragon had two gunshot wounds, one in the chest and one in the face. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to the news release.
Flores Mondragon was arrested on a charge of burglary of a dwelling with intent to commit a new felony, the release said. It was not immediately clear whether he was still in the hospital or had been transferred to the Dallas County Jail.
